The Study Programme of Japanese Literature FCS UB has successfully organized the Badai Bungaku Taikai program, which was participated by students from 37 universities from across Indonesia. The program, which took place online via Zoom on Saturday (24/6/2023) was a national scale event. Carrying a theme inspired by thea Haiku excerpt by Matsuo Basho, namely Semi No Koe (蝉の声), which literally means the sound of cicadas. This program represents the support and participation of the Study Programme of Japanese Literature FCS UB in enlivening the regular events of the Japanese Literature Academic Community throughout Indonesia, namely Humanities Studies Competition (HSC).

This time, Badai Bungaku Taikai has three interesting competitions. Not only does it educate, but it also trains the participants to express themselves in the arts, culture, and general knowledge about Japanese civilization. The three competitions are Essay about Japan, Shoudou (Kanji Calligraphy), and Tanka (Japanese Poetry). These competitions are considered to gauge the competitive level of the participants.

When there is a competition, there will certainly be a panel of adjudicators to assess and evaluate the participants competence. This time, the Study Programme of Japanese Literature at FCS UB successfully collaborates with judges from various universities. The panel includes both internal and external adjudicators, and even involves a native speaker Sensei (日本人, Nihonjin) in the adjudication process. The Sensei serving as adjudicators for the essay competition are Esther Risma Purba, M.Si. (UB) and Dr. Shobichatul Aminah, M.Si. (UI). The sensei acting as the adjudicators for the Tanka competition are Fitriana Puspita Dewi, M.Si, Ph.D. (UB) and Naoki Tai (UNSADA). Besides, the Sensei for the Shoudou competition are Ai Nishimura (UB) and Nunuk Endah Srimulyani, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. (UNAIR).

Badai Bungaku Taikai was a great success as it attracted the interest of 108 participants from various universities, ranging from Universitas Borneo Tarakan in North Borneo to Universitas Udaya in Bali. Indeed, not only were the universities diverse, but the participants also came from different study programs.

Every competition always has a winner, and the champions of this event have their unique qualities that make them stand out form the other participants. In the essay competition, the first place was secured by Retna Ayurin Nur Azizah, followed by Karunia Haganta in second place, and Al kautsar Mika Ghinannafsi in third place. Meanwhile, in the Shoudou competition, Yan Ardi Nugraha claimed the first position, followed by Keisha Davina Kurnia and Tyas Mahardika Ardyn in the second and third position respectively. In the third competition, the Tanka or Japanese poetry creation contest was won by Muhammad Zainullah as the first winner, followed by Felicitia Aulia Rahma as the second winner and Ahmad Yuda Perdana as the third winner.

The Badai Bungaku Taikai (バダイ文学大会) event, which has been successfully held, managed to obtain the best of the best champions. This activity has also served as a platform for Japanese literature students and those interested in Japanese arts and culture to express their interests and talents. Through this event, participants were able to positively express their works and compete to create their best pieces. By participating in this competition, they were able to express themselves in the arts, culture, and general knowledge about Japanese civilization.
