University Collaboration in 2023: Students from Kochi University Joined Field Practice, Online Exchange and Visiting Professor with Study Programme of Japanese Literature Universitas Brawijaya

Malang, December 11th 2023 – In order to enhance the quality of education and academic cooperation, the Study Programme of Japanese Literature (SPJL) FCS UB has just held a variety of interesting activities. This activity involves many aspects from educational development and university collaboration including with Kochi University in Japan. Some of the activities were Field Practice, Online Exchange Program and Visiting Professor.

Kochi students’ Field Practice

During the field practice that was held from 7th of November to 5th of December 2023, a number of students from Kochi University namely Miki Karin, Hamada Kensei, Fujimaru Chise, and Dodo Haruka actively participated in this program. These students taught courses such as ‘Dokai Sakubun 2’ and ‘Kaiwa 5’. Also in December, they held an online seminar about Japanese culture.

Online Exchange Program 

Online exchange between Kochi University and SPJL UB aims to mutually support language learning. Students were paired with Kochi University students to  exchange information and reciprocally learn about the language they want. Besides that, this project also provided chances to broaden social connections and gain new friends.

“I enjoy this experience because I can improve my speaking skills and widen my social network. I hope that this program will always be held in the future,” said Adhwa, an SPJL student batch 2023.

This program also has positive impressions from the participants. “I love this program because I can befriend Japanese people without going to Japan. Also, this program allows me to learn about Japanese language and culture from Kochi University’s students and vice versa.” A batch 2023 SPJL student, Tere, commented.

Visiting Professor Program 

Guest lecture with Professor Noriko Imai, discussed the topic of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Students of SPJL who are taking Introduction to Japanese Linguistic course in semester 3 participated in this class. In this course, Professor Imai shared her knowledge about the process of SLA, giving deeper understanding of key concepts in language learning.

Visiting Professor Program with Kochi University

The collaboration of Kochi University and SPJL UB is not only benefiting students and staff, but also enrich academic experience and developing erudition in various fields. It is hoped that this activity will continue to take place and flourish, creating new opportunities for academic and professional growth for both universities.
