Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Brawijaya University in collaboration with PT. Miyagi Sangyou, provided internship opportunities at the Rising Sun Hotel Miyakojima Okinawa to Japanese literature students, one of whom was Mutiara Nurani. This program was carried out for approximately 1 year from August 2022 to July 2023 with the hope of gaining a firsthand comprehension of the world of hospitality, as well as enhancing hard skills, soft skills, and Japanese language skills.
During her internship period at the Rising Sun Miyakojima Hotel, Mutiara was involved in various activities in the Housekeeping, Food and Beverages, and Front Office departments. In the Housekeeping department, Mutiara learned about the significance of ensuring hygiene, tidiness, and beauty in hotel rooms and public areas to create a comfortable guest experience. Through various tasks such as replacing linen, organizing rooms, and being a greeter to welcome guests, Mutiara also learned about hotel protocols and service standards.
For Mutiara, this internship experience was very beneficial. “Beside gaining new insight and experiencing the world of Japanese workplace and hospitality, I also expanded my networking as well as enhanced my communication and leadership skills. Thus, this internship program not only provides practical learning, but also equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the world of work with confidence and competence,” she explained.
